Description

A delicious and easy dessert featuring caramelized apples wrapped in flaky puff pastry.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package puff pastry sheets (2 sheets, approx. 500g)
  • 2 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) caramel sauce
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Thaw puff pastry sheets according to package instructions. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Apple Filling: Peel, core, and dice the apples into small cubes. In a pan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the diced apples, sugar, lemon juice, and ground cinnamon. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the apples are tender and caramelized. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  3. Assemble the Pastries: Unfold the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into 4 equal squares. Arrange the squares on the prepared baking sheet. Score a smaller square inside each pastry square, creating a border (be careful not to cut through completely). Spoon the apple filling into the center of each pastry square, staying within the border.
  4. Add Egg Wash and Bake: Beat the egg in a small bowl. Brush the edges of the pastry with the egg wash for a golden finish. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.
  5. Finish with Caramel and Serve: Drizzle the caramel sauce over the warm apple pastries. Dust with powdered sugar if desired. Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • Use cold puff pastry, as thawing it too much can make it difficult to work with.
  • Feel free to add nuts, like chopped walnuts or pecans, for added texture.
  • Store any leftover pastries in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat before serving for best results.
