Description
A delicious creamy dip made with caramelized onions, perfect for serving with crackers or bread.
Ingredients

- 2 large yellow onions
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (optional)
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives (optional)
Instructions
- Slice the onions thinly. In a skillet, melt butter and olive oil over medium heat.
- Add onions and a pinch of salt. Cook slowly for 30–40 minutes until golden and caramelized.
- In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese and sour cream until smooth.
- Stir in minced garlic, caramelized onions, thyme (if using), salt, pepper, and most of the Gruyere.
- Transfer mixture to a baking dish. Sprinkle remaining Gruyere on top.
- Bake at 375°F for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Garnish with chopped chives and serve warm with crackers or bread.
Notes
- This dip can be made ahead of time and heated before serving.
- Adjust seasoning according to your taste preference.
