Description

A delicious creamy dip made with caramelized onions, perfect for serving with crackers or bread.


Ingredients

  • 2 large yellow onions
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice the onions thinly. In a skillet, melt butter and olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add onions and a pinch of salt. Cook slowly for 30–40 minutes until golden and caramelized.
  3. In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese and sour cream until smooth.
  4. Stir in minced garlic, caramelized onions, thyme (if using), salt, pepper, and most of the Gruyere.
  5. Transfer mixture to a baking dish. Sprinkle remaining Gruyere on top.
  6. Bake at 375°F for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  7. Garnish with chopped chives and serve warm with crackers or bread.

  • This dip can be made ahead of time and heated before serving.
