Description

Enjoy these deliciously cheesy, garlicky rolls as a side dish or a snack!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Dissolve yeast in warm water; let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy. Add yeast mixture and milk to the flour mixture. Knead until a smooth dough forms. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Shape the Rolls: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal parts. Shape each piece into a roll and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Make deep cuts into each roll, forming sections for stuffing.
  3. Prepare the Garlic Butter Mixture: In a small bowl, mix minced garlic, melted butter, parsley, oregano, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  4. Stuff and Brush the Rolls: Stuff each cut section of the rolls with mozzarella cheese. Generously brush the tops of the rolls with the garlic butter mixture.
  5. Bake: Bake rolls in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

Notes

  • Consistency: If dough is too sticky, add a little more flour while kneading.
  • Cheese Variations: Feel free to use other types of cheese such as cheddar or gouda for different flavors.
  • Herbs: Fresh herbs add a distinct flavor, but dried herbs work well too.
  • Crispy Crust: For an extra crispy crust, brush the rolls with egg wash before baking.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat before serving. They also freeze well.
