Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Purple gel food coloring
- 1 cup colorful sugar sprinkles
- ½ cup colored sugar crystals
Instructions
- Prepare the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until combined. Then, mix in the milk.
- Combine with Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until fully incorporated. Add a few drops of purple food coloring and mix until the color is evenly distributed.
- Shape the Cookies: Roll the dough into 1-inch balls. Roll each ball in the colorful sugar sprinkles and then in the colored sugar crystals to coat well.
- Bake: Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set. They might look a little underdone, but they will firm up as they cool.
- Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Color Variation: Feel free to use different gel food colorings for various colored cookies.
- Sprinkle Substitutions: You can use nonpareils or other types of sprinkles instead of sugar crystals for varied texture.
- Storage: Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
