Description

Delicious crispy cheese corn dogs that are perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 hot dogs
  • 8 sticks mozzarella cheese (optional)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups cornmeal
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Wooden skewers
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish)
  • Ketchup or desired dipping sauce

Instructions

  1. Preparation: Insert wooden skewers into hot dogs. Optionally, you can slide a stick of cheese next to each hot dog.
  2. Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal, baking powder, sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then add the milk, mixing well. Gradually combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients until smooth to create a thick batter.
  3. Coating: Pour panko breadcrumbs onto a shallow dish. Dip each skewered hot dog into the batter, ensuring it’s evenly coated. Roll the battered hot dog in panko breadcrumbs for a crunchy exterior.
  4. Frying: Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Carefully lower the battered hot dogs into the hot oil. Fry them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  5. Serving: Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve hot with ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Ensure the oil temperature remains consistent to achieve an even crispy texture.
  • You can use various cheeses for different flavors, such as cheddar or pepper jack.
  • For an extra crispy texture, double coat in batter and breadcrumbs.
  • If you prefer a spicy kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the batter.
