Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract.
- Make Batter: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until well combined.
- Bake: Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely on wire racks.
- Cook Cherries: In a saucepan, combine cherries and sugar over medium heat.
- Thicken Sauce: In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water until smooth. Stir into the cherry mixture.
- Simmer: Cook until thickened. Stir in cherry liqueur and let cool.
- Whip Cream: In a chilled bowl, beat whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Layer Cake: Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread some cherry filling and whipped cream over the top.
- Repeat Layers: Place the second cake layer on top. Repeat with remaining cherry filling and whipped cream.
- Decorate: Top cake with fresh cherries and chocolate shavings.
