Description

Delicious chocolate-filled croissants made with puff pastry. Perfect for breakfast or dessert!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package puff pastry sheets (usually 2 sheets)
  • 1 cup chocolate spread (such as Nutella)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional, e.g., hazelnuts or almonds) for garnish
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Thaw the puff pastry sheets according to the package instructions. Usually, this involves leaving them at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  2. Cut the Pastry: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Unroll the pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into triangles. You should be able to get about 6-8 triangles per sheet, depending on the size.
  3. Fill with Chocolate: Spoon about 1 to 2 tablespoons of chocolate spread on the wider end of each triangle. (Optional) Sprinkle a small amount of chopped nuts over the chocolate spread.
  4. Roll the Croissants: Starting at the wide end, roll each triangle up toward the pointed end to form a crescent shape. Place the rolled croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between each.
  5. Apply Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to make an egg wash. Brush the tops of the croissants with the egg wash to give them a glossy finish when baked.
  6. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the croissants are golden brown and puffed.
  7. Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly on a wire rack. (Optional) Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the puff pastry is cold but pliable for easy handling and best results.
  • For an extra indulgent touch, drizzle melted chocolate over the baked croissants before serving.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for up to 1 month. Reheat in the oven to restore crispness.
