Description

A refreshing cocktail with a spicy kick, perfect for summer gatherings.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 12 small red chili peppers, sliced (or 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes)
  • 34 fresh strawberries, hulled
  • 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1 oz hot honey syrup (from above)
  • Ice
  • 1 fresh strawberry
  • 1 lemon wheel or twist
  • 1 fresh mint sprig

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the honey, water, and chili peppers.
  2. Heat over medium, stirring, until the honey is fully dissolved.
  3. Remove from heat and let steep for at least 15-20 minutes to infuse the heat. Strain into a jar and let cool completely. (Can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks).
  4. In a cocktail shaker, muddle the fresh strawberries until crushed and juicy.
  5. Add the lemon juice, bourbon, 1 oz of the cooled hot honey syrup, and a handful of ice to the shaker.
  6. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until well-chilled.
  7. Strain into an ice-filled rocks or old-fashioned glass.
  8. Garnish with a fresh strawberry, a lemon wheel, and a mint sprig. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • This cocktail can be adjusted for spice by using more or less chili.
  • The hot honey syrup can also enhance other cocktails or dishes.
