Description
A delightful twist on classic cinnamon rolls, enhanced with crispy bacon and sweet maple syrup.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 egg
- 1 cup cooked bacon, chopped
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, mix the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it bubbles. Add the melted butter, egg, salt, and flour. Mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Prepare the Filling: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll the dough into a rectangle shape. Spread the softened butter over the dough and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly. Drizzle half of the maple syrup over the cinnamon sugar layer.
- Roll and Cut: Roll the dough tightly from one end to the other, forming a log. Cut the roll into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Let the rolls rise for an additional 30 minutes. Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Prepare the Glaze: In a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls.
- Add Bacon and Syrup: Sprinkle the chopped bacon over the glazed rolls. Drizzle the remaining maple syrup on top.
Notes
- Ensure the milk is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast properly.
- For a richer flavor, use thick-cut bacon.
- Adjust the amount of maple syrup and bacon to your taste preference.
- For overnight preparation, prepare and cut the rolls, then refrigerate. Allow them to come to room temperature before baking in the morning.
