This homemade bread recipe is easy and results in a soft, delicious loaf perfect for sandwiches or toast.
Ingredients

- 240 ml whole milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 large egg
- 360 g bread flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 45 g unsalted butter, softened
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Warm the milk until lukewarm and stir in the sugar and yeast. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until slightly foamy.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, beaten egg, and butter. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 to 1 hours until doubled.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 3 or 4 pieces. Roll each into logs and place into a greased loaf pan.
- Cover and let rise for 30 to 45 minutes until puffy and nearly doubled.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush the top with egg wash.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- This bread can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days.
- You can freeze the bread for longer storage.
