Description

A creamy and delicious cheddar cheese sauce perfect for drizzling over steamed or roasted vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup 2% milk
  • 1 ½ cups Old Cheddar cheese (grated)
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan melt the butter over medium heat until melted. Sprinkle in the flour and mix well until it bubbles and forms a smooth paste, about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Slowly add in a little bit of the milk and whisk until no lumps are present. Keep adding a little bit of milk and whisking until combined until all milk is incorporated and the mixture thickens up, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add in the grated cheddar cheese and stir until it is melted and combined, about 3 more minutes.
  4. Add salt and pepper to taste. Pour over your favorite steamed or roasted vegetables like asparagus, broccoli or cauliflower.

Notes

  • This sauce can be used as a dip or poured over dishes for added flavor.
  • Adjust the thickness by varying the amount of flour and milk.
  • Storage: Keep in the refrigerator for up to a week.
