Description

This delicious baked french toast casserole is perfect for a holiday breakfast or a special brunch!


Ingredients

  • 1 loaf brioche or challah bread, cubed
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (optional)
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional add-ins: fresh berries, sliced bananas, chopped pecans, mini chocolate chips, orange zest

Instructions

  1. Cube the bread into bite-size pieces and spread them in a 9 by 13 baking dish.
  2. In a big bowl, combine the eggs, milk, cream, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt to prepare the custard.
  3. Pour the custard over the bread, then gently press the cubes down.
  4. Cover and chill for at least 4 hours, but overnight is best.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40 to 50 minutes until puffed and golden.
  6. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
